Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Part 1 Basic Certification – CPO Approved program
Ontario’s Occupational Health & Safety Act requires all workplaces with 20 or more regularly employed workers to have a Joint Health & Safety Committee.
Two of these committee members must be certified (one management representative and one worker representative). Certification requires completion of both Part I (Basic) and Part II (WPS) Certification Training for Joint Health & Safety Committee members.
Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Part 2 Workplace Specific (WPS) – CPO Approved Program
Part II of the Program focuses on hazards specific to the participants workplace.
Documentation supporting attendance upon completion for due diligence purposes
The purpose of Workplace Specific Certification is to supply participants the tools on how to Recognize and Assess, Control and Evaluate hazards at your workplace.
Joint Health & Safety Committee Refresher Training
The 1 day CPO Approved JHSC refresher training is required by those that completed both Part 1 & 2 after March 1, 2016 under the new standards. It must be completed 3 years from the date that the Part 2 training was completed, then every 3 years after that date to maintain your certification.
If you were fully certified under the old standards (prior to March 1, 2016), it is not mandatory to take the refresher course. You may still attend the course to get updated on the current standards and regulations. and all the changes that have taken place in the past few years.
Please note: This class requires a minimum of 6 participants in order to run, as per the Ministry of Labours standards.
WHMIS 2015 (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
This training follows the new WHMIS 2015 – Globally Harmonized System (GHS) components that are being implemented throughout Canada and the rest of the world.
December 1, 2018 is the final phase where manufacturers, distributors, importers & employers all must be using the new system. Employees must also be trained on WHMIS 2015.
The course will cover hazard identification, WHMIS 2015 legislation, rights of workers, hazardous classification symbols, supplier & workplace labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and more.
Forklift Operator Safety Training
This course focuses on safe operational techniques, preshift inspections, hazard identification, fuel sources, pedestrian safety and more., This class includes classroom instruction followed by a hands-on Competency Evaluation to reinforce the theory and specific skills required to safely and efficiently operate the equipment.
Aerial Lift Operator Safety Training
This course focuses on the safe operational techniques for the Aerial Lift or Elevated Work Platform. The course covers applicable legislation, hazards, the OH&S Act, preshift inspections and work area survey, load capabilities and more.
This class includes classroom instruction followed by a hands-on Competency Evaluation to reinforce the theory and specific skills required to safely and efficiently operate the equipment.
Overhead Crane Operator Safety
This program will provide participants with the knowledge required to use an overhead crane safely and efficiently. This course covers a variety of industrial type cranes including bridge, jib, and gantry cranes.
This course includes classroom instruction followed by a hands-on Competency Evaluation to reinforce the theory and specific skills required to safely and efficiently operate the equipment.
Mobile Crane Safety (up to 8 tons)
We can provide Mobile Crane training for cranes up to 8 tons. The course focuses on teaching the safe operation techniques, legal requirements under the OH&S Act, preshift inspection, PPE, vehicle & hoisting inspections, work site inspection and more.
This training consists of the classroom theory portion followed by the hands on Competency Evaluation for each participant.
Violence and Harassment + Sexual Harassment
In 2016, Bill 132 was introduced, requiring updates, changes and additions to existing Violence & Harassment policies and programs to include Sexual Harassment. In 2010, the Occupational Health and Safety Act was amended to include workplace violence and harassment as an occupational hazard.
All provincial workplaces employing over five employees must have an updated workplace violence and harassment policy & program. The amendment to the Act requires the employer to perform a risk assessment for workplace violence, taking into account the nature, type, and/or conditions of work.
Health & Safety Representative Training
Companies that have between 6 and 19 workers are required to have a Health & Safety Representative.
This course focuses on the duties of the H&S Rep such as; Internal Responsibility System, legislated requirements for workers, supervisors & employers, workplace inspection, recognizing, assessing, evaluation and controlling hazards, report writing, work refusal process, MOL & WSIB reporting requirements and much more.
Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)
Our course focuses on legislative requirements under the OH&S Act, classification of dangerous goods schedules 1 & 2, special provisions schedule 2, shipping documents, labels & placards, safe handling, emergency response action plan (ERAP), and more.
Confined Space Entry Hazard Awareness
Confined Spaces are some of the most hazardous places in a workplace. Failure to identify a confined space and have a hazard assessment and rescue plan in place can lead to accidents and fatalities at your workplace.
Our training includes, definition of a confined space, applicable legislation, air testing equipment, rescue procedures, PPE, entry permits, hot work permits, pre job meetings, physical & atmospheric hazards and more.
We provide a ‘Qualitative’ method of Respirator Fit Testing which is a straight pass/fail based on the participants sensory response once a challenge agent is added.
Participants are responsible for providing their own respirators and must be clean shaven along the jaw line in order for a properly administered fit test.
Fall Arrest for Industrial/manufacturing (non-construction)
The objectives for participants in this course include learning about falls in the workplace, identifying preventative measures to eliminate falls, understanding the duty to have fall protection, identifying and understanding fall protection systems, learning how to inspect fall protection equipment, and identifying the components of a fall protection plan.
This program is designed to ensure employers, management, and workers understand the hazards associated with uncontrolled energy and the proper methods of controlling that energy through a properly developed and implemented lockout program. Teaches, PPE, lockout processes, hazardous energy control program, safe removal of lockout and more.
Due Diligence for Managers & Supervisor
Our course is designed to provide owners, managers, and supervisors, with an understanding of how to manage occupational health and safety responsibility and accountability. The course teaches participants the legal responsibilities of a supervisor and managers representing the employer.
Some of the topics covered are, but not limited to; OH&S Act legislation, section 219 of the criminal code, accident investigation techniques, dealing with work refusals, record keeping requirements, responsibilities regarding training of employees and more.
Developing and implementing an effective spills prevention program is the most effective means of reducing the frequency of spill discharges to the environment. The training can be based on your company’s current spill response policy and program.
Our course focuses on the need for response planning, identifying and assessing the risks associated with a spill, responding to a spill, and clean up. We discuss spill prevention concepts and techniques, and apply knowledge learned through a practical hands-on spill response exercise.
Fire Extinguisher Training
Our course covers the responsibilities under the OH&S Act, the fire triangle, fuel classifications, types of extinguishers and how to use them with the PASS method and rules for fighting fires.
This course includes a hands-on demonstration using pressurized water and allows for all participants to use the fire extinguisher to put out a mock fire.
Training program that is designed and presented for your company including 2 flow charts depicting 2 different accident scenarios and the processes to deal with each individual event. Also includes legislation, steps for a proper accident investigation, duties of managers & supervisors, reporting requirements to the WSIB & MOL.
The Accident Investigation training should be provided for your Supervisors, Managers & Safety Representatives for companies with 6-19 employees or Joint Health & Safety Committee Members for companies with 20 or more employees.
Ergonomics in the Workplace
Overuse and “wear and tear” injuries continue to be among the most costly work related injuries in industry today. This workplace ergonomics assessment identifies the risk factors associated with poor ergonomic positioning, but more importantly the controls necessary to prevent musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) from occurring.
Applying ergonomic principles provides a safer, healthier and more productive work environment. We provide a detailed assessment report with recommendations.
Back Safety/Manual Material Handling
This course will explore common causes and controls of MSD’s, and introduce the participant to safe working procedures in order to handle material in the workplace without injury. The term MSD is used collectively for a number of injuries and disorders of the muscles, tendons, nerves, etc.
Chemicals in the Workplace
This course will focus on the chemicals at your workplace that your employees deal with on a daily basis. Learn the proper PPE, how to read the SDS, handling procedures, what to do if a spill occurs and more.
Worker/Supervisor Awareness Safety Training
Worker/Supervisor Awareness Safety training became mandatory on July 1, 2014 for all workers in Ontario.
Each employer in Ontario has a responsibility to provide workers with the information and instruction required to perform their job safely. Our course helps employers in fulfilling this obligation by providing workers with information about their rights and responsibilities as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OH&S Act), as well as the importance of safety in the workplace.
Supervisor awareness training basically follows the same course outline but does speak to the specific requirements for supervisors.
Loading Dock Hazard Awareness
Our Loading Dock Safet training course will help workers recognize hazards and assess the hazard and then apply some controls to mitigate or eliminate the hazard. Instruct workers on the proper loading and unloading techniques to ensure their safety and the safety of those around them.
We can provide the Train the Train (TTT) training for most all of our courses. For all courses their is a one day Adult Learning session which will teach students who adults learn as opposed to children.
