We wanted to make you aware of an important upcoming change regarding Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) certification and recertification.
The upcoming changes apply to all certified JHSC members, regardless of when their certification expired.
If a JHSC member’s certification has lapsed — whether it expired before or after July 1, 2026 — they will not be required to retake JHSC Certification Part One and Part Two.
Instead, they can simply complete an approved JHSC Refresher course to become recertified.
What does this mean for your workplace?
This is particularly important for companies with former JHSC members whose certifications expired several years ago.
A previous JHSC member who allowed their certification to lapse may now be able to complete the Refresher course, regain their certification, and rejoin your company’s JHSC without having to start the entire certification process over again.
This provides an excellent opportunity to review your current JHSC membership and identify former certified members who may be willing to return to the committee.
If you have former JHSC members whose certifications have expired, now is a good time to reach out to them and discuss getting them recertified.
